President’s New Year Letter January 2014

Dear Friends,

A Happy New Year to you all. We are looking forward to lots of good events in 2014. So here are some dates to put in your new diary.

On Sunday 19th January at 6.30pm we will be having an ecumenical Songs of Praise in St. John’s Parish Church, Hamilton. This will be led by the Churches Together in Hamilton and  from the LSO Jean Schofield will play the organ.

In February we will be going on 22nd at 2.30pm to Dalziel St. Andrew’s, Motherwell to be
introduced to the rebuilt Walcker organ. Eric Geddes will play and information will be provided  about the financing of the project. Organists will be welcome to play the instrument so bring your  music and your organ shoes.

On Saturday 29th March there will be a ‘Come and Sing’ performance of The Crucifixion by  John Stainer in the historic Bothwell Parish Church. Philip Hotham will conduct and John  Pitcathley will play the organ. Choirs, organists and interested singers will be welcome to the  rehearsal at 2pm prompt, followed by a refreshment break (bring your own picnic) and the performance will be at 5pm. Please spread the word about this.

Our AGM will be held in the Old Parish Church, Hamilton on Saturday 26th April at 2.30pm.   This is a very important meeting.

On Saturday 10th May it is our turn to host the Scottish Federation of Organists’ Conference in New St. Andrew’s, Church in Coatbridge. We will require the support of all our members to run  this day effectively so please volunteer for duty. To date we have arranged an organ recital by Dr.  Ian Tracey of Liverpool Cathedral and a talk by him too and a recital by the Cairn String  Quartet. There is one gap still to be filled. The complete programme and registration form will  be out in early March

Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Mary A. Smith

P.S . A reminder that the LSO Council will meet at Uddingston on Sat. 11th January at 2.30pm
