Organist – St Michael’s Parish Church, Linlithgow

St. Michael's Choir | St. Michael's Parish Church

We are looking for an experienced and appropriately qualified Organist to play at our services, support our choir and work in partnership with our Director of Music to enhance our worship through organ and piano music. The post may also suit a retired professional musician. The church sanctuary is equipped with a Willis organ (1912) with 2 manuals and pedals, and a grand piano.

You will be expected to play at weekly services, occasional seasonal services (such as Christmas, Easter, etc), and accompany the choir and other musical groups at rehearsals if requested and as directed by the Director of Music. You will also be expected to play for funerals and weddings, if required, for which a separate fee would be payable. In addition, you will monitor the condition of the organ and piano and arrange tuning or maintenance as required.

We are looking for a person with a high level of musical skill on both organ and piano, confidence in a range of musical styles, and the ability to work collaboratively with others. In return, we are a large and active Parish Church which offers a warm and welcoming congregation, an enthusiastic choir, and many accomplished musicians of all ages keen to use their talents in the life of the church.

The annual salary will be in the range £2,750-£3,000, depending on skill and experience. The organist post may also be suitable for an Organ Scholarship, aimed at the able student anxious to gain professional experience in a good musical environment, to be renewable each year subject to satisfactory performance of the duties required and general conduct. The annual salary will be in the range of £1,500-£2,000.
