Lunchtime Organ Recital given by Tim Lambourn……Paisley Abbey, Saturday 21 February at 12.30pm

The series of Abbey Saturday recitals continues with a varied programme of organ music from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, played by Timothy Lambourn.

Timothy Lambourn has been the Assistant organist at Paisley Abbey since October 2014. Tim was the Senior Organ Scholar at Jesus College Cambridge where he studied geography but prior to his time there, he held organ scholarships at St Mary the Virgin, Twickenham and All Saints, Kingston-upon-Thames alongside academic and music scholarships at Hampton School. More recently, he was organist at High Church Hilton, Aberdeen

In 2005 he was awarded the Hall & Manton Trophy at the Croydon Music Festival, and he gained Associateship of the Royal College of Organists in 2007.
Tim studied with David Briggs, David Sanger and Gordon Stewart while projects with choirs have included tours in the UK, to the European continent and to the USA, live radio broadcasts for the BBC, and a performance of Britten’s St Nicolas in collaboration with the Britten Sinfonia in December 2009.

Saturday 29th November: – The City of Glasgow Chorus with Orchestra of Scottish Opera at 7:30 p.m. Mozart’s Requiem Tickets £16.00 (students £8.00) available from the Abbey Shop

Sunday 30th November: – Advent Carol Service at 4pm. This is one of the most moving and evocative of the year as the darkened church gradually becomes fully lit by the advent and expectation of the coming of Christ.

Abbey Recital Saturday 8th November

Paisley Abbey, Saturday 8 November at 12.30pm

The series of lunchtime recitals in Paisley Abbey continues on Saturday 8 November with an interesting programme for flute and organ given by Orkney based Gemma McGregor and Paisley Abbey Director of Music, George McPhee. 

The Programme of pieces, mainly for flute and organ includes

  • J.S. Bach – Prelude and Fugue in G major BWV 541
  • G.F. Handel – Sonata No. 6 in C major Opus 1 No.7 for Flute and Organ
  • Eddie McGuire – Dialogue for Flute and Organ
  • J.S. Bach – Sonata No. 4 in C major BWV 1033 for Flute and Organ

Gemma McGregor is a musician from Orkney and a doctorate composition student at Aberdeen University. She studied flute as an undergraduate at Darlington College of Arts, learning Baroque flute with Ann Kimber and contemporary flute with Kate Lucas. Her repertoire includes a wide range of styles that include playing Baroque music with Aberdeen’s Early Music Collective and traditional music with several Orkney groups. She researches and collects Orcadian folk music and is leader of the Orkney Heritage Fiddle Project. Gemma

has written chamber music for strings, clarinet and flute and plays flute on the CD of her music entitled, ‘From Nothing’, which was released by Watercolour Studios in 2011.

Handel’s messiah @ the Abbey

Dear All,

Please Come and Sing Handel’s Messiah on Sunday 28th September !
If you have no previous experience of such an event, don’t worry, as you will be well supported by your fellow singers.
The orchestra has been formed, and we need a choir to create an excellent performance for our audience.

All the details are on the attached form.
In summary, the registration starts at 2pm, followed by an afternoon rehearsal from 2:30pm
Performance will be at 7pm.

This event has been tremendously enjoyable and successful in the past, and Dr McPhee would be delighted to see you all in attendance again.
