Saturday 9th September – Organ Crawl to Coatbridge
10am-11am Calder Parish Church (web)
11am-12.30pm St Patrick’s RC Church (web)
2pm-4pm St Augustine’s RC Church (web)
Organs include an unaltered 2 manual Willis, a rebuilt 2 manual Willis and a smaller extension unit organ. All three churches are architecturally stunning.
Saturday 21st October at 2.30pm – Organ Recital in Cairnlea Parish Church, Airdrie (web)
Given by Steven McIntyre (Assistant Director of Music St Mary’s Cathedral, Great Western Rd, Glasgow). After the recital members and friends are invited to an early evening meal at Guidi’s restaurant in Coatbridge. Please contact Marjory Macdonald if you wish to attend.
Saturday 4th November – Joint Glasgow and Lanarkshire Societies Come and Sing in Cathcart Old Parish Church
2pm Rehearsal and 4pm Performance
Featuring the Miller two-manual and pedal, 20 stop organ, Andrew Forbes (Director of Music Glasgow Cathedral) and Tom White (organist Cathcart Old) will play for Hymns and Anthems. An invitation is extended to all singers.
Saturday 9th December at 2.30pm – Crosshill Parish Church, Motherwell (web)
John Riley sharing his reflections on his Organ Crawl to Denmark, with Multi-media presentation and music on the Willis organ. Andrew Macintosh, RCO director Scotland, will give a brief introduction to our members.
Saturday 13th January – Organ Crawl to East Renfrewshire
10am-12noon at Eaglesham Parish Church (web) which has a fine 2 manual Willis organ
1.30pm-3.30pm at Stamperland Parish Church (web) which houses two organs (a historic 2 manual Lewis and a 2 manual digital instrument).
Duets anyone? Lunch after Eaglesham at the Eglington Arms.
Sunday 21st January at 6.30pm – Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church, Motherwell (web)
Songs of Praise in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity at Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church, Motherwell. A fine selection of hymns and readings, with an offering for ST ANDREWS HOSPICE AIRDRIE. Dalziel St Andrew’s houses an historic Walcker Piper Organ, recently restored by Walcker.
Thursday 15th February at 7.30pm – Organ Recital at Cadzow Parish Church, Hamilton
Matthew Lazenby presents an evening organ recital. Matthew Lazenby is a pianist, organist and chorister who puts his skills to use as a piano teacher, accompanist, organist and choir trainer in Leeds and York.
Saturday 10th March at 2.30pm – Joint Lanarkshire and Stirling Society event
Our annual joint meeting held this year in Bellshill Central Parish Church (web) with Schola Benedicti. The Choral Scholars are a mixed group of singers from Glasgow and beyond and have recently sung in Rome for Pope Francis. The fine Hilsdon Organ at Bellshill Central will feature. Tickets £5.00 available from members, Bellshill Central Church and at the door. Complimentary tickets will be issued to both Lanarkshire and Stirling Society members.
Saturday 21st April at 2.30pm – AGM and Members Recital in Hamilton West Parish Church (web)
Three LSO members play in a composite recital. Our members are invited to attend the AGM which will follow the recital. Please do come along – the Committee needs your support and suggestions. [Hamilton West Church was rebuilt in 1880. John Hutchison’s design exhibits many features in the 13th-century Gothic style. The interior has one of the best examples in Scotland of a wooden hammerbeam roof. The organ is by Hill & Son of London of 1902.]
SUMMER OUTING TO LIVERPOOL – JUNE 2018
Visit to Willis Workshop in Liverpool and two organs by Willis will be visited in two local churches. Overnight – leave Friday return late Saturday. Full details still to be finalised. If you are interest please let us know.
